The Arts Yard C.I.C – The Power of Paint
The Arts Yard C.I.C was co-founded by Kathryn McGuinness and Alan Davies following the success of their free youth street art club, created to provide local young people with a safe, creative and inclusive space to learn, express themselves and build confidence through art.
Combining Kathryn’s 25+ years as a qualified Art & Design teacher with Alan’s experience as a practising street artist, they witnessed first-hand the positive impact creativity was having on young people — particularly those who were neurodiverse, struggling with confidence, or simply in need of connection, purpose and belonging. What began as a small community project quickly grew into something much bigger, with increasing demand from families, schools and the wider community.
Inspired by the success of the club and a shared belief that creativity has the power to change lives, Kathryn and Alan established The Arts Yard C.I.C to expand their community work and create more accessible opportunities for people of all ages to engage in creative expression and wellbeing through art.
Currently, The Arts Yard C.I.C is largely self-funded through Cockney Green’s commissioned work, workshops and events, with profits helping to support free and low-cost creative opportunities in the community. However, since becoming a Community Interest Company, we are now actively seeking funding, sponsorship and partnerships to help us deliver more neurodiverse creative workshops, expanded youth provision, community street art projects, public murals and creative wellbeing programmes.
Our long-term vision is to secure a permanent full-time home for The Arts Yard — a dedicated Creative Health Hub where young people, adults and families can access inclusive arts provision, creative therapies, mentoring, wellbeing workshops and opportunities to connect through creativity in a safe, inspiring environment.
At the heart of everything we do is a simple belief: all art is therapy — and creativity has the power to connect, heal and inspire.
